The New Men and the Post-Socialist Transition in Africa: The Case of Mozambican Students in Cuba

This doctoral research project aims to investigate the trajectory of Mozambicans trained in Cuba within the framework of a socialist pedagogical project and how they reconfigure themselves to become protagonists in a post-socialist society. The literature review covered three main topics: (1) the New Man; (2) Third World international solidarity; and (3) international schools in Cuba. It identified a gap in studies examining the process of constructing new subjects anchored in common ideas defended by Marxist-Leninist-inspired movements and how these actors incorporated them into their cultural, social, and political identities.

The research adopts a qualitative approach and aims to contribute to the understanding of how individual and collective subjects adapt to processes of historical transition.
