Carla Panico


Biography

Carla Panico is a PhD candidate in Postcolonialism and Global Citizenship at the University of Coimbra (CES/FEUC), currently a visiting scholar at the University L'Orientale in Naples with an Erasmus+ scholarship. She was awarded a research grant by the Fundação Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) (2018-2022) and was a research fellow at the University of Pisa (2022-2024), where she previously earned a degree in Contemporary History. Her primary research interests include nationalism, Italian emigration, and the Southern Question. She has been a visiting fellow at the University of Seville (with the Compoliticas - Interdisciplinary Research Group on Communication, Politics, and Social Change, 2019) and at the University of Salerno (2020). In 2022 and 2023, she co-organized the inaugural editions of the summer school Endangered Theories: Standing by Critical Race Theory in the Age of Ultraviolence (CES). She has been a member of the Italian Society of Women Historians since 2020, and alongside her academic publications, she has written for il Manifesto, Dinamo Press, Jacobin Italia, Fondazione Feltrinelli, and other magazines.
