Tamanna Ahmed
Biography
Tamanna Ahmed completed her M.Arch (2016) with Erasmus Mundus scholarship (University of Évora), with the dissertation, 'Vihara Architecture: Defining the Existential foothold of VIII century Buddhist Monastery Somapura Mahavihara of ancient Bengal' - on which, later she published a book in 2019. As an Architect her professional experience extends from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (Department of Architecture) as a Government employee to the office of 'Marina Tabassum Architects' in Bangladesh from whom the learning of the 'wisdom of the land' was fundamental. She acted as Production Architect for the exhibition of 'Marina Tabassum: Materials, Movements and Architecture in Bangladesh' and executed the project of 'Uma Casa na Cabeça' - a three month long workshop aiming at emphasizing social integration among locals with the immigrants of different age, gender and ethnicity - both of which held CCB, Lisbon - supported by Aga Khan Trust for Culture, among others in 2024. Till date, she has conducted communications in several international conferences, while engaging in various architectural collaborations, both in Portugal and Bangladesh. Her recent field work supported by Orient foundation, on 'Portuguese heritages and settlements in Bengal' was crucial to initiate her doctoral studies with Coimbra Studio (DARQ, UC) funded by FCT since 2025.
