NOTE:
Boaventura de Sousa Santos
invites students who are poets, artists, rappers, musicians, singer-songwriters, dancers, performers and artisans to present proposals for the summary of his classes.
The summaries will be presented at the beginning of each lecture, starting on the second lecture. The summary should last between 3 and 5 minutes and two can be presented for each class.
Proposals must be sent to bsantos@ces.uc.pt up to one week before the class. The deadline for submitting the proposal for the summary of the fourth class is June 11, 2020. 


Bio note
Boaventura de Sousa Santos
is Professor of Sociology, University of Coimbra (Portugal), and Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned an LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale University and holds the Degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, by McGill University.
He is Director Emeritus of the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra and has written and published widely on the issues of globalization, sociology of law and the state, epistemology, social movements and the World Social Forum in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Danish, Romanian and Polish.
His most recent project ALICE: Leading Europe to a New Way of Sharing the World Experiences was funded by an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council, one of the most prestigious and highly competitive international financial institutes for scientific excellence in Europe.
Research topics: Epistemology, sociology of law, postcolonial theory, democracy, interculturality, globalisation, social movements, human rights.
His books have been published in Portuguese, English, Italian, Spanish, German, French and Chinese
