The ATHENE project brings together students, teachers and researchers to work together on school content, based on the principles of citizen social science. It aims to create an educational model that is more collaborative, dynamic and aligned with the challenges of the future.

The main objective is to help children and young people develop autonomy and motivation to learn. Specific objectives include: 1) Valuing the skills and experiences of each child and young person; 2) Promoting reflection on what has been learnt during their schooling; 3) Preparing young people to take control of their educational path and support others as mentors; 4) Encouraging critical thinking, autonomy and the ability to create innovative solutions in their studies and professional life.

ATHENE is based on three years of work with children and young people, and on the results obtained during the development of research micro-projects and their evaluation by students and teachers.

The work carried out over three school years will lead to the creation of a free digital platform, which will provide modules for self-study, support materials, training actions and e-portfolios.

In this workshop we will draw on the experience accumulated during the pilot phase and the first few months of ATHENE's implementation to present the foundations of citizen science as a pedagogical methodology and promote joint reflection on the potential and challenges of this approach in the classroom.
